Senate Committee Issues Arrest Warrant for Corporate Affairs Commission Registrar-General Over Ignored Summons

Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, the Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), has been the subject of an arrest warrant issued by the Senate Committee on Finance due to his alleged persistent refusal to accept invitations to appear before the committee.

The Federal Ministry of Finance and its agencies issued the warrant on Thursday during a budget defense session.

The head of the CAC was accused by Senator Sani Musa, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, of consistently ignoring parliamentary summonses and neglecting to account for matters concerning the commission’s earnings.

Musa said that the Registrar General had repeatedly declined to honor this committee’s summonses and invitations.

He further claimed that the committee’s worries over the reconciliation of CAC revenues remained unanswered.

“We have problems with the CAC’s revenue reconciliation, but every time we called him, he would send a junior officer,” the chairman said.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu brought up the issue initially, urging the committee to suggest to President Bola Tinubu that Magaji be removed from office.

Kalu maintained that the National Assembly’s authority and responsibility are compromised when legislative supervision is not followed.

Senator Adams Oshiomhole, another committee member, suggested that the 2026 Appropriations Act should not authorize any funding for the CAC until the Registrar-General personally addresses the legislators.

Additionally, Oshiomhole suggested that the commission be prohibited from using its own funds without first obtaining National Assembly consent.

The suggestion to limit the CAC’s access to its internally generated cash while it awaits compliance was later approved by the committee.

The development highlights escalating conflict over financial accountability and oversight function compliance between the legislative branch and important government entities.

At the time this report was filed, there were no quick responses from the CAC.
