Opposition complaints to the 2027 general election schedule have been ignored by Ajibola Basiru, National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who characterized them as politically driven and misdirected.
Speaking to Saturday Punch on Friday, Basiru stated that the Independent National Electoral Commission’s schedule strictly adhered to the Electoral Act.
In response to demands that the calendar be reviewed, the APC scribe maintained that opposition figures’ outcry was unjustified.
They are amusing people. The schedule was released in compliance with the recently enacted electoral law,” he stated.
He said the opposition’s response shows that they are not ready for the 2027 elections.
Basiru said that instead of publicly criticizing the timeline, those who feel it violates the law should seek legal remedy.
“Their lamentation only shows their lack of preparation and tardiness,” he said. So they want to schedule their own timeline for the election in which they wish to take part?
“They could either politically choose to boycott the elections or contest the schedule in a court of law if they feel so strongly that something bad has happened.”
In recent days, opposition parties have criticized the updated schedule, claiming that it imposes strict timelines that will hurt them before the national elections in 2027.
