On Wednesday night, a woman was kidnapped and her husband was shot by gunmen who were thought to be kidnappers in the Pelebe axis of Akure South Local Government Area in Ondo State.
Residents in the community’s Ogunti Camp area are in a state of terror as a result of the attack.
The state has been dealing with constant security issues in recent weeks, with armed individuals killing and kidnapping people every day.
The development also sparked a number of protests in local villages, when locals and young people chastised the government for neglecting its duty to protect people and property.
The people fled for safety as the heavily armed militants invaded the neighborhood and fired intermittently into the air, according to sources.
According to one of the reports, the couple was outside their home when the gunmen showed up. The husband, Daniel Adesida, a tomato farmer, was shot by the armed men as he tried to stop them from kidnapping his wife.
The farmer was left in a pool of his own blood after the shooting, while the gunmen carried his wife away.
Adesida was saved and transported to the police clinic for medical care, according to police public relations officer Jimoh Abayomi, who also confirmed the occurrence and stated that the area had been secured.
In order to capture the escaping suspects, the Commissioner of Police has ordered increased patrols, bush-combing operations, and intelligence collection inside the impacted area and nearby areas.
Residents are reassured by the order that every effort would be made to find the offenders and prosecute them. The public is asked to exercise caution and to notify the closest police station right away of any suspicious activity or people.
