Rosenior Backs Jorgensen Following Mistake in Chelsea Loss to PSG as Guardiola Matches Unwanted Record

Goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen has been supported by Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior after his costly error in the Blues’ 5-2 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 match on Wednesday, March 11.

Although Jorgensen started ahead of Robert Sanchez, his pass was intercepted, and Vitinha then lobbed the ball into the net to give PSG their third goal.

Chelsea has a challenging challenge ahead of the return leg at Stamford Bridge next week as a result of the loss.

Rosenior asserted that errors are a necessary part of the game in remarks made following the game. “Players make mistakes occasionally,” he stated.

“Filip is not the first person to commit a football-related error.”

The Chelsea manager acknowledged that his team’s last goal was especially difficult.

“We are on the verge of becoming an exceptional team,” he declared.

“We were still in it even at 4-2. The fifth goal is the most difficult. I have a serious problem to solve.

Chelsea’s focus will now shift to Saturday’s Premier League match at Stamford Bridge against Newcastle United, followed by the rematch against PSG.

Following his team’s 3-0 loss to Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 match, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola tied an unwelcome record.

At the Santiago Bernabeu, midfielder Federico Valverde scored all three goals to give the Spanish team a commanding lead going into next week’s second leg.

OptaJoe reports that Guardiola’s first-leg Champions League knockout loss is now his joint-heaviest. In the past, the Spaniard lost 3-0 to Liverpool in the 2017–2018 quarterfinals and to Barcelona in the 2014–2015 semifinals.

Manchester City’s attention will now turn to the Premier League, where they play West Ham United this coming Saturday.
