ADC Emerging as Opposition Leader, More Defections Expected – Kenneth Okonkwo

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is currently the main opposition party in Nigeria, according to attorney Kenneth Okonkwo, who believes that more politicians would soon join the group.

Nine senators have defected to the ADC, making it a significant minority in the National Assembly, according to earlier reports.

In response, Okonkwo emphasized in Friday’s Channels TV morning brief that the ADC does not depend on government authority or resources to draw in new members.

He claims that a combination of opposition leaders looking to oppose the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is what is driving the party’s increasing popularity.

“We’re not APC; we lack the resources and authority to contribute. Since we are not the dominating power, it is not even within our grasp,” he stated.

However, he maintained that the ADC has become the most effective opposition platform in the nation, even if it does not hold federal power.

“The African Democratic Congress, or ADC, is currently the main opposition party,” Okonkwo said.

The attorney stated that in order to successfully oppose the ruling party, he had previously counseled opposition leaders from groups like the Labour Party (LP) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to band together.

“I have long stated that the PDP, LP, and other parties are not viable. “It would be beneficial for the opposition leaders and parties to form a coalition,” he stated.

He claimed that in the end, the alliance decided to use the ADC as a political platform to work toward what he called the goal of a new Nigeria.

“They were able to deal with the APC, which has established itself as an enemy of democracy and undoubtedly an enemy of the welfare of the people, when they came together,” Okonkwo continued.

He added that as the political landscape continues to change in front of upcoming elections, more lawmakers will likely join the party.

“More politicians will join us soon, and by God’s grace, the APC will soon be history,” he declared.
