In advance of the 2027 election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has zoned its presidential ticket to the South, according to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike.
According to reports, Wike informed reporters of this on Friday night after touring the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome in Abuja, which will host the party’s national convention on March 29 and 30.
Wike emphasized that preparations for the convention are almost finished and noted that important posts have already been distributed among regions to guarantee balance.
“We have already zoned our positions,” he declared. Each zone has its own slots. The chairmanship has been assigned to the North, while the presidency has been assigned to the South. We think this consensual framework will facilitate the process.
Instead of the customary “unity list,” which frequently reflects internal divisions, the PDP is putting up a united front for the first time. Everyone has agreed on the course we are following, thus there are no factions.
“We’re ready. The purpose of this visit is to evaluate the final arrangements. We are roughly 95% prepared, like I mentioned, and everything will be ready by tomorrow.
“The VIP area is prepared, and all state seating arrangements have been finalized. More than 2,500 delegates are not anticipated.
Wike insisted that the PDP will proceed with its scheduled convention, emphasizing that post-event efforts to make amends with disgruntled members will continue.
Additionally, he rejected an appeal from a group led by Tanimu Turaki to the Supreme Court, claiming that it would not have an impact on the convention because settling internal disputes is a continuous process.
Additionally, Wike said he was confident the party would shock Nigerians with its success in the general elections of 2027.
“There is room for accommodations,” he stated. The PDP is a major party. Take a look at the umbrella; everyone can fit under it.
“I’ve always stated that complaints will arise in any group. It is unrealistic to expect everyone in a household of two or three to be content all the time, much less a gathering of millions of people. There will always be some unhappy people. We’ve decided to meet with them, learn about their worries, and figure out how to make accommodations. The party’s overall interests are the most crucial factor.
