Wike: 2027 Elections Will Bring PDP Surprise

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will hold its national convention on March 29 and 30 as scheduled, according to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, who added that efforts to make amends with disgruntled members will continue following the event.

Additionally, Wike said he was confident the party would surprise Nigerians with its success in the general elections of 2027.

A group led by Tanimu Turaki filed an appeal with the Supreme Court, but he rejected it, saying it would not have an impact on the conference.

Speaking on Friday night, Wike emphasized that addressing internal conflicts is a continuous process after seeing the convention’s location, the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome in Abuja.

“Accommodations are available,” he stated. The PDP is one of the biggest parties. The umbrella is large enough to fit everyone, as you can see.

“I’ve always stated that disputes will arise in any group. Even in a household of two or three, you can’t expect everyone to be happy all the time, let alone at a celebration with millions of people. Some people will never be content. We’ve decided to have a conversation with them, learn about their worries, and determine how we might help them. The party’s overall interests are paramount.

Regarding zoning, Wike affirmed that in order to maintain equilibrium, important posts have already been divided among the areas.

“We’ve already set up our zones. Each zone has slots of its own. The chairmanship is geographically located in the North, whereas the presidency is in the South. This consensual approach, in our opinion, will simplify the procedure.

The PDP is putting up a united front for the first time instead of the customary “unity list,” which frequently indicates internal disagreements. Everyone is in agreement with the path we are following, thus there are no factions.

Preparations for the convention are almost finished, he added.

“We have everything we need. Assessing final arrangements is the purpose of this visit. We are about 95% ready, like I mentioned, and everything will be ready by tomorrow.

“Every state’s seating arrangements are finished, and the VIP area is prepared. We anticipate 2,500 delegates at most.

On Sunday and Monday, the conference is set to take place in Abuja.
