Oseni Rufai Recalls How Brig. Gen. Musa Uba Was Killed

When discussing the late Brigadier General Musa Uba, the Nigerian Army commander who was slain by terrorists during an ambush in Borno State in November 2025, journalist and Arise TV host Oseni Rufai broke down in tears.

Rufai remembered the terrible circumstances surrounding the senior officer’s last moments during the broadcast, claiming that the tale still makes him want to cry.

Rufai claims that after his crew was heavily attacked during a mission, General Uba sent out a distress message. The commander reportedly called for assistance when his device’s battery ran low.

“I want to cry, Dr. Abati. In the bush was General Uba. Speaking passionately during the broadcast, Rufai stated, “He had low battery and made a message saying, please come and save me.”

He bemoaned the lack of timely assistance.

The next thing we heard was that he had been apprehended and killed by the bandits. He said, “Recall how General Uba’s wife sobbed that we failed him.”

The 25 Task Force Brigade in Damboa, Borno State, was commanded by Brigadier General Musa Uba.

He was well-known for spearheading front-line operations in the battle against insurgency in northeastern Nigeria.

While returning from a regular military operation, the senior officer was slain when terrorists from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) ambushed his convoy near Wajiroko in the Damboa Local Government Area.

The Nigerian Army honored him for his gallantry and dedication to commanding troops in combat against rebels, despite early terrorist propaganda allegations that he was arrested and subsequently executed.
