2.2 Million Candidates Participate in 2026 UTME Across Nigeria

The 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) started on Thursday in all parts of the country. More than 2.2 million candidates are expected to take the test at accredited centers.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is in charge of the exam, which will take place from April 16 to April 22 in several sessions each day.

Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the Registrar of JAMB, told the people in charge of the exams to show the highest level of professionalism and dedication to their work. He said that the success of the UTME depends a lot on how well they do their jobs.

During a virtual final briefing for technical officers before the exam, Oloyede gave the order.

He thanked the staff, temporary workers, service providers, and technical advisers for their help in making the mock exam a success.

He said that most of the problems that came up during the mock exercise were because some technical officials didn’t do a good job of evaluating the centers.

Oloyede also said that teams that do a great job, like quickly handling exam materials and turning in reports on time, will get incentive packages.

He said again that JAMB has a zero-tolerance policy for cheating on tests and told students not to bring things that aren’t allowed into the test rooms.

He said that advanced technology, like biometric verification and real-time monitoring systems, has been used to protect the integrity of the exam.

The registrar also said that candidates whose biometric information could not be verified would have to take the test again at specific centers that the board had approved.

A NAN reporter who was watching one of the centers at Aduvie International School, Jahi, says that the first session, which was supposed to start at 8:30 a.m., actually started at about 8:40 a.m.
