Anyanwu Challenges Appeal Court Decision Affirming PDP Expulsion

Samuel Anyanwu, a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, has gone to the Court of Appeal to fight a decision that upheld his removal from the party.

Anyanwu, who is the national secretary of a part of the PDP, filed the notice of appeal on April 10, according to reports.

Anyanwu said in his appeal that the Federal Capital Territory High Court was wrong to throw out his case against the party’s disciplinary action.

He criticized the decision made by Justice Yusuf Halilu, which supported the PDP disciplinary committee’s recommendation.

The court said that the committee gave him a chance to defend himself and that he didn’t show that the process was “fundamentally defective.”

The PDP Young Generation Caucus asked for Anyanwu’s expulsion in March 2025 because of alleged anti-party activities. The disciplinary committee, led by Tom Ikimi, agreed.

The committee said that he didn’t show up even though he was invited.

Later, in November 2025, the PDP announced at its national convention in Ibadan that Anyanwu would be kicked out along with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and Ayo Fayose, the former Governor of Ekiti State. The decision also had an effect on other members of the party.

Anyanwu based his appeal on nine points, which called into question important parts of the lower court’s decision.

He said that the trial judge was wrong to say that the suit was too early because he hadn’t used all of the party’s internal options.

The appellant also said that the court was wrong to say that he asked it to decide whether the actions of a political party organ were appropriate.

He wants a court order to throw out the lower court’s decision.

The acting National Chairman of the PDP, Iliya Umar Damagun, Tom Ikimi, Abdullahi Idris Uma, Talford Ongolo, Emma Ibeshi, Zainab Maina, Chille Igbawua, and Eyitayo Jegede are all respondents.

This news comes at a time when the PDP is having trouble with its leadership, with different groups fighting for control of the party’s structure.

Kabiru Tanimu Turaki leads one group, and Abdulrahman Mohammed leads the other, which is loyal to Wike. Both groups have filed multiple lawsuits over who controls the party, which has made the divisions within the party even worse.
