Tension in Abuja Over Alleged Plot to Attack Airport, Prison, Others

Residents of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, and Niger State are scared because Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters are said to be planning to attack government buildings.

Reports from both inside and outside the country say that the planned targets include the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Kuje prison, and a military detention center in Niger state, which is next door.

Sources in security say that the planned attacks may be meant to free insurgents who are being held in jails.

A source from the Nigerian Customs confirmed the memo that went viral, but they didn’t say anything about the security alert.

But he did say that “it was an internal memo and not for the public.”

Reports say that there have been security worries in the capital city, with many reports of planned attacks.

But Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, the Commissioner of Police for the FCT Command, told reporters on Wednesday that the city is safe.
