The Presidency has said that the power supply in Nigeria has gotten better since 2015 and 2023.
During a TV interview on Arise TV, Daniel Bwala, the President’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, talked about this. He was talking about the changes that are happening in the power sector.
He says that a lot of Nigerians are already getting better access to electricity since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took office.
Bwala said, “Electricity availability is slowly getting better in different parts of the country.”
He said that the government’s recent changes to laws and policies are helping to change the electricity industry and get more people involved.
He went on to say, “The changes being made are making the sector more open and making new ways for power to be generated and distributed.”
Bwala said that one of the biggest changes in the field is that power has moved beyond the federal government.
He said that new laws make it easier for states, local governments, and private investors to get involved in making and distributing electricity.
“The new legal environment means that power generation and distribution are no longer limited to the federal level. He said, “States and private operators now have a clearer right to invest and grow supply.”
He went on to say that the reforms’ goal is to make the sector less centralized and get more people involved in fixing Nigeria’s long-standing electricity problems.
Bwala said that the sector still has problems, but he is hopeful that things will keep getting better.
People all over Nigeria are angry about how bad the power supply is. Many states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), still have power that goes out and comes back on.
For example, many parts of the FCT only get a few hours of electricity a day, which makes taxpayers unhappy.
