Ibrahim Mahmood Sani, a public affairs analyst and civil society advocate, has asked General Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Defense Staff, and Nigerian troops to work harder to get rid of bandits, terrorists, and other criminals in the northern part of the country.
Sani made the request in a statement on Wednesday, when there was more violence in some parts of northern Nigeria.
After a recent operational visit to Zamfara State, where the Chief of Defence Staff told troops to decisively crush banditry in the area, he made these comments.
Sani said he supported the military’s renewed determination to deal with insecurity head-on in response to the news. He asked all Nigerians to support and encourage the armed forces in their fight against what he called a common enemy.
He said that the killings and other terrible things that bandits keep doing must not be allowed to happen anymore.
“The Chief of Defence Staff has shown that you can’t lead from a distance.” Sani said, “His presence in Zamfara, his interactions with troops, and his clear order that Nigeria must be made safe at all costs send a strong message that the time for hesitation is over.”
“The fight against banditry is not something that can be done quickly. “It takes a lot of commitment over time, and it’s good to see that the Armed Forces leadership is putting both operational effectiveness and troop welfare first,” he said.
