ADC Chieftain, Maigari: ‘Peter Obi Has Pushed Igbos 20 Years Backwards From Getting Presidency’

Hon. Kasimu Maigari, a member of African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Legislators’ Forum has said that former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has created a setback for the realization of an Igbo presidency.

Maigari stated this during an interview on ARISE News, when he spoke about recent political developments and Peter Obi’s defection to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) with the former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Maigari said the political movement of Peter Obi did not move forward the long held ambition of the South East to produce the next Nigerian president but moved it backwards.

He further argued that many of those behind Peter Obi are mainly interested in elective positions, like state assembly, House of Representatives or governorship tickets, using his popularity as a launch pad to achieve their aims.

“My worry is not if Peter Obi will win the presidency, my worry is that Peter Obi has pushed Igbo’s 20 years backwards to get the Presidency.

“It is very obvious that Peter Obi will not win in the 2027 election. The only people that follow Obi and Kwankwaso are people that think they will rise on their backs to get elected and then defect and leave them.

“99 percent of those running around Peter Obi want to contest either state assembly, House of Rep or governor and the only easiest way for them to win an election is when Peter Obi or Rabiu Kwankwaso is on the ballot.

Maigari said ADC is still united and strategically positioned for the 2027 elections, adding that Peter Obi’s influence in some parts of the country may indirectly benefit the party and affect President Bola Tinubu.

“The ADC is still intact,” he said. Peter Obi is going to be our agent in the places Tinubu thought he was going to make it and this is our advantage as ADC.”
