Aisha Yesufu Leaves ADC, Joins NDC, Announces Senatorial Ambition

Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu has left the African Democratic Congress and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

She announced the development in a statement posted on her 𝕏 handle on Wednesday, it was reported.

She said her decision was based on her fidelity to presidential aspirant, Peter Obi.

She also revealed her intention to contest for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

“The next couple of days will determine the future of this country,” she wrote. This is the reason I left the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as I follow the leadership of HE Peter Obi, who today epitomizes the hope and aspiration of a Nigeria that Works.”

She said her initial decision to support Obi made her join the ADC, adding that her move to the NDC was an extension of that support.

When I give my word, I keep it. My initial decision to support HE Peter Obi led me to the ADC. I am joining the NDC to continue to honour the promise,” she added.

Yesufu said she would be joining the NDC and would be contesting the FCT senatorial seat under the party.

“This time I am joining the NDC not as a member but as one contesting for the FCT Senatorial seat.”

She also said she had fulfilled her obligations with the ADC and made what she described as a “clean transition,” and expressed appreciation to party members.

“I was fortunate to work with great and wonderful people whose goal was a better country. “I am thankful for being able to serve as sub-committee chair, deputy committee chair and secretary at various levels,” she said.

She said the experience had been “invaluable” and thanked colleagues for their support and cooperation.
