Chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu has said that there is no guarantee that Presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubakar would have mentioned Peter Obi in the party primaries.
He pointed to the race’s unpredictability and the shifting composition of the opposition
Speaking on Channels TV Morning Brief, ahead of the 2027 elections, Momodu was asked to respond to Obi’s recent defection from the ADC to the New Democratic Congress (NDC).
He said Obi’s resignation was based on the ongoing litigations in the ADC, but also highlighted a deeper problem in the opposition coalition.
“They are going to throw it open. There is no way Atiku is going to defeat Obi at the primaries. “Obi has chosen to go and that’s his decision. I hope he has fun testing his popularity somewhere else.”
“You can’t force Atiku out for a man just because he says if he and Kwankwaso come together, the election is over by noon,” Momodu said. “That’s the thing, you have to let other people test their popularity somewhere else. But it’s just as important to acknowledge that the election is a numbers game.”
On Obi’s potential impact in the 2027 race, Momodu was cautious, pointing to the changing political winds but not making any definitive predictions regarding voter turnout. He asked whether Atiku could maintain the same support base from the previous election cycle with the changing
