Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has called on the Nigerian Police to invite prominent political figures such as former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, former Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, and former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN, to explain the disappearance and alleged killing of activist, Abubakar Idris, known as Dadiyata.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, the activist questioned the credibility of the police to carry out a credible investigation into the case of high-profile politicians.
He later called for the setting up of a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to summon and investigate the four former political office-holders as well as a former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) for clarity on the matter.
Let me be clear, I don’t trust the Nigeria Police Force IGP Monitoring Unit to investigate Dadiyata’s disappearance and presumed killing. You can’t rely on them to investigate high profile politicians and powerful interests that might be connected to this case. Let there be a judicial commission of enquiry!
“They should invite former governor of Kano State, @Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje then DSS DG, Yusuf Bichi and then iGP, and probably former AGF Abubakar Malami, SAN they were involved,” Sowore wrote.
Remember that Dadiyata, a lecturer and outspoken social media commentator based in Kaduna was abducted from his residence in Kaduna State by unknown persons, and has been missing for almost seven years.
On Friday, the incumbent Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Police Monitoring Unit to investigate a petition seeking a probe into allegations linking two senior police officers to the alleged killing of Dadiyata.
