Saleh Mamman, the former Minister of Power, was detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after being found guilty and sentenced by the Federal High Court in Abuja for allegedly misappropriating funds while in office.
Mamman was taken into custody at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, according to EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede.
He and two people who were allegedly protecting him from authorities were reportedly captured in Kaduna.
The anti-graft bureau is also looking into the apartment where the arrest occurred.
From August 2019 till September 2021, he was the Minister of Power.
President Muhammadu Buhari swore him in on August 21, 2019, following his nomination and Senate confirmation.
Buhari fired Mamman on September 1, 2021, and Abubakar Aliyu, Minister of State for Works and Housing, took his position.
The Federal High Court of Nigeria found Saleh guilty in May 2026 of fraud and money laundering involving more than 33.8 billion naira ($24.7 million) and sentenced him to 75 years in jail.
