2027: “Go Get Your PVC” – National Grid Monitor Comment Sparks Nationwide Debate

The post by Nigeria’s national grid monitoring account on X Monday has sparked much talk on the internet, with users having mixed feelings.

The post, which had garnered more than 110 million views by the time of this report, drew both praise and criticism for its message.

The account posted: “Word for the week: GO GET YOUR PVC.

The comment quickly sparked buzz among social media users, most of whom took it as a plea for more civic engagement before the 2027 general elections.

Replying to the post, an X user with the handle Marvelous wrote, “Even National Grid is sick of the administration.

Another, Chinedum Mbah, encouraged citizens to participate actively in the electoral process, saying, “Get your PVC. Know your ward. Vote . “Fight for your votes with everything you’ve got.”

But Felix Ndubusi disagreed, saying that merely registering voters was not enough to affect the outcome of future elections.

“Nobody is concerned about Tinubu and PVC. Have you ever seen him telling his supporters to go and collect their PVC’s? “You need a whole lot more than votes to beat him.

Another user, Bimo, asked what the point of voting was. “To do what?” he wrote. Nigerians should not do anything, nobody should come out and vote yes, collect the money they give you but don’t vote anybody, you will see that they will still put Tinubu in. “Till then you will know the meaning of this life na turn by turn.

The National Grid X handle is privately run and not connected to government agencies that manage Nigeria’s electricity network, including the National Independent System Operator and the Transmission Company of Nigeria, it was reported.

The debate comes on the back of concerns on the country’s electricity supply. The country has a population of over 250 million people but still produces and distributes between 3,000 to 4,500 megawatts of electricity.

Before the 2023 general elections, Bola Ahmed Tinubu promised to tackle Nigeria’s perennial power supply problems. Yet, more than three years into his administration, electricity shortages persist.

President Tinubu last month won the All Progressives Congress presidential primary to run for re-election in 2027.

Meanwhile, Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Peter Obi, recently promised to increase Nigeria’s electricity generation and distribution capacity by 10,000 megawatts within four years if elected president in the 2027 general elections.
