The faction of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) led by Agbo Major has said that the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, is the number one enemy of Nigeria’s democracy.
Major made the allegation in response to questions during an interview Friday with News Central Television.
He said the original focus of the NNPP was legislative leadership before the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Rabi’u Kwankwaso initiated the presidential contest.
The faction had earlier called for the resignation of Amupitan, over alleged non-compliance with court judgments concerning the party’s leadership dispute.
“The biggest enemy of our democracy is the INEC chairman himself. Like I said at the press conference, we are a law-abiding political party.
“We are not going to take the law into our own hands, but what we have resolved to do is to shift it to the judiciary which has made its pronouncements.
“They have taken their position on what they expect INEC to do. “So, we have also taken INEC to the court of the public, so that Nigerians will know that the biggest enemy of our democracy is the INEC Chairman himself,” Major said.
