A 36-year-old man, Aminu Shanaki, was on Tuesday arraigned by the police before an Ogba Magistrate Court in Ikeja, for allegedly abducting a child.
The defendant is facing two counts bordering on conspiracy and stealing preferred against him by the police.
Police prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on September 7, 2024, at Kola Bus Stop in the Alagbado area of Lagos State.
Iberedem said the defendant allegedly abducted a child belonging to the complainant, Mrs Kausara Olaegbe.
He told the court that the defendant was apprehended by passers-by who quickly handed him over to the police.
According to the prosecutor, the offences committed contravened Sections 275(1)(a) and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Consequently, Magistrate Mrs. Ejiro Kubeinje granted him bail of N300,000, with two sureties in like sum.
Kubeinje said the sureties must provide proof of employment and tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case has been adjourned to October 15, 2024, for mention.
