Suspected car snatcher dies in accident with stolen vehicle

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a suspected car thief after the car he stole along with his partner was involved in an accident.

The other suspect involved in the theft died in the accident.

The Command in a statement on Tuesday morning said the crime was committed last Wednesday.

Signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the statement said, “On 24th April, 2024, the combined efforts of police and critical stakeholders led to the apprehension of two individuals for the Offences of Criminal Conspiracy, Culpable Homicide punishable with death, Armed Robbery, amongst others.”

It gave the names of the car snatchers as Umar Faruq, 25 years old, a resident of Rumde Baru, Yola North Local Government Area; and Al-Amin Adamu, also 25 years of age and a resident of Samu Naka, Yola South Local Government Area.

The police stated that both suspects boarded a commercial vehicle from Jalingo in Taraba State where they claimed to be travelling to the Adamawa State capital, Yola, and that on reaching a certain place between Mayo-Belwa and Ngurore town in Adamawa, they stabbed the driver, Muhammed Suleiman, leaving him with a deep cut, and robbed him of his vehicle.

“Immediate response from the police and thorough investigations so far conducted, led to the arrest of the perpetrators after they had a fatal accident few kilometers away that claimed the life of one of the suspects,” the Police stated.
