Coalition of Civil Society Organizations of Nigeria (CCSON) has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the new appointments into the Humanitarian Affairs Ministry.
The group, in a press statement jointly signed by the Deputy National Chairman and Spokesperson of the coalition, Comrade Auwal Mohammed and Joy Elizabeth, on Wednesday, said the seven appointments made by President Tinubu under the Federal ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development were timely and apt.
The group noted that the move is a clear indication that the president is committed to alleviating the plight of the citizenry and is determined to take Nigeria to her promised land in his renewed agenda.
The coalition leaders further noted that the Humanitarian Affairs Ministry is a compassionate agency of government that would offer livelihood support to all and sundry and, in the long run, get the dividends of democracy to every member of Nigerian society.
However, they reiterated their call to President Tinubu to consider Hajiya Adenike Tejuosho, the CEO of QAT Foundation, for the position of Humanitarian Affairs Minister, following her track record of interventions in national development.
“This appointment from President Tinubu is apt, considering the agitations from different nooks and crannies of our society due to the government’s policies and reforms that have posed severe economic challenges to the people.
“The Humanitarian Affairs Ministry is a compassionate and critical agency of government, whose impact can positively affect the larger population of this country if adequately managed. This is a good move from the APC administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“We, as a Coalition of over 200 Civil Society Groups that constitute over 50 million members across the 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), fully support this kind of initiative that would give every member of the society a sense of belonging. We therefore called on citizens to support the president in moving Nigeria forward.”
“Equally, we are calling on the president to consider competence and humanitarianism to the core, like Halimat Tejuosho Adenike who has used her resources to support the less privileged across the 36 states and the FCT.
“Also, on the grounds of patriotism, Tejuosho risked her life from Abuja to Jos in the hope of speaking with protesters so they could end the protest, which they obliged. Her intervention in Kogi State foiled the protest with no single interest, including people living with disabilities, whom she serves as their national Matron. Therefore, appointing her into such a position will make Nigerians believe that Mr President is interested in the welfare of young Nigerians.” the statement added.
