The Rivers State government has denied accusations that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has shut down the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and other oil businesses in the state.
It is understood that the complaint was made through a social media report.

However, in a statement signed by Commissioner for Information and Communications Warisenibo Joe Johnson, the Rivers government stated that the report is not only incorrect, but also propaganda.

The administration advised Rivers residents to ignore the story, claiming that Fubara had not issued such an unnecessary command.

The statement states, “The attention of the Rivers State Government has been called to a false news item spreading on social media about “Gov. Siminalayi Fubara closing down NNPCL and all oil businesses in Rivers State”.

“The story was not only untrue, but it was propaganda produced by the author and the State’s opponents. The story was also distributed through an insignificant and unproven channel.

“Governor Siminalayi Fubara is committed to the rule of law and does not use unconventional or crude techniques to government.

“We therefore enjoin Rivers people and well-meaning Nigerians to discountenance the spurious and fake report as Governor Fubara at no time contemplated and/or directed such needless order of shutting down the economy for any reason.”
