Ahead of the state’s November 16 governorship election, the Ondo State Trade Union Congress (TUC) announced Wednesday that it supports Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
The state chairman of TUC, Comrade Clement Fatuase, addressed the labor leaders at the congress’ special rally in support of the governor in Akure, the state capital, emphasizing the decision that was made unanimously by the leaders of the 23 active affiliate unions of the Congress, both current and former.
He stated: “The current administration’s operations were critically examined at a meeting on Thursday, October 31, 2024. Since Mr. Governor received a high rating, the Congress felt compelled to honor his commitment to the welfare of his employees.
He listed Governor Aiyedatiwa’s accomplishments, including the timely and consistent salary payments, the 2024 leave bonus, and the N35,000 wage award, a move that puts Ondo State alongside Lagos as one of the top states in the Southwest.
He also emphasized the hiring of approximately 1000 health workers, the appointment of permanent secretaries and tutors-general, and the almost finished hiring of teachers for primary and secondary schools throughout the state’s 18 local government districts.
Additionally, Fatuase commended the governor for sponsoring more than 100 workers to attend the Southwest Labour Summit in Ibadan and for approving a new minimum wage of N73,000.
The TUC head praised Governor Aiyedatiwa’s accomplishments but called for the housing project to be fully implemented, with government officials receiving cheap land allocations and the need for dedicated land to encourage civil servants who are interested in agriculture.

Governor Aiyedatiwa responded by thanking the congress for keeping a cordial relationship with his administration and praising the union for acknowledging the progress his government has made in the few months since taking office, highlighting the fact that these accomplishments were motivated by a dedication to the welfare of the state’s citizens.
Speaking on salary payments, Aiyedatiwa said that employees have a fundamental right to have their earnings paid on a regular and timely basis, not as a favor.
In order to guarantee that public employees provide effective and efficient services, the governor promised that his administration would continue to promote training and capacity building.
He thanked the union for its united appeal for continuity and reassured them of his steadfast dedication to putting workers’ welfare first and meeting their needs in a thorough manner.
