Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested two members of an armed robbery syndicate allegedly enforcing illegal sit-at-home orders in the state.
The arrests took place on Monday in the Nkwelle-Ezunaka, 3-3 area, around 10am, following a joint operation by the police and Anambra Vigilante Operatives.
In a statement on Tuesday, the state police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said, “Police-led Anti-Sit-Home Joint patrol with Anambra Vigilante Operatives on 25/11/2024 by 10am burst a notorious criminal gang of three in Nkwelle-Ezunaka, 3-3 area, arrest two of the armed suspects and declared the other popularly known as Akada wanted over armed robbery, illegal possession of firearm, and enforcement of illegal sit-at-home.”
The suspects identified as Chinedu Amah and Prince Nwogu, were apprehended during a hot chase after a victim raised an alarm about being robbed at gunpoint.
Ikenga added, “The operatives recovered one English-made pistol and other incriminating items. The suspects include one Chinedu Amah and Prince Nwogu, all males and residents in Nkwelle-Ezunaka.
“They were arrested during a hot chase by the operatives after the victim raised an alarm about how they held him at gunpoint and dispossessed him of his iPhone and other personal belongings.”
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to the crime and identified Akada, their leader, who is currently at large.
Ikenga said, “They all confessed to the crime and mentioned Akada, who is currently at large, as their gang leader. Meanwhile, efforts have already been put in place to track other gang members.”
This operation comes amid ongoing efforts by the Anambra State Police Command to combat criminal activities across the state.
On Saturday, the command reported the arrest of a suspected kidnapper terrorizing residents along the Enugwu-Ukwu Road in Njikoka Local Government Area.
In the press statement, Ikenga noted that the arrest followed a gun duel with the gang.
“The joint security operatives arrested the suspect after engaging the gang in a gun duel.
“The police acted on credible information and demobilised the gang members by responding swiftly to the planned activities of the notorious gang in the area,” he stated.
