Jigawa Gov Presents N698.3bn Budget To Assembly

Governor Umar Namadi has presented the sum of N698.3 billion to the Jigawa State House of Assembly as the state’s 2025 appropriation bill.

The governor presented the budget during the assembly’s special sitting presided by the speaker, Rt Hon Haruna Aliyu Dangyating.

In his presentation, Governor Namadi tagged the 2025 budget as “Budget for Innovation and Transformation” designed to achieve the ambitious goals of making Jigawa State truly great through the 12-point agenda implementation framework.

The budget which came with unprecedented approach and innovations in the state’s fiscal year had its 77 percent amounting to N536.75 allocated to capital expenditure, 21 percent for recurrent and 1.7 percent for contingencies and stabilisation.

The agricultural sector, positioned as the main economic drive of the state, received the allocation of N136 billion with broader goals of achieving agricultural mechanisation and improving the food security.

The infrastructure sector, particularly roads and electricity, was allocated N148.1 billion; commerce and investment, N20.8 billion; education, N120 billion; health, 140.1 billion and women and social development, N6.8 billion.

Land and regional planning was allocated N10.72 billion, water supply and sanitation, N11.3 billion; environment and erosion control, N26.8 billion; justice, N3.36 billion; constituency projects, N26.1 billion; information, youth, sports and culture, N1.8 billion and ICT received N2 billion.

In his speech shortly after the budget presentation, speaker of the state assembly, Rt Hon Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, commended the governor for achieving the feat of implementing the 2024 budget above average.

 

He promised to work hard to ensure speedy and effective legislative work on the budget and its passage before January 2025 to enable the executive to uninterruptedly continue executing programmes and projects for making Jigawa state great.
