Jigawa robbery, fraud suspects to face trial –Police

The Jigawa State Police Command has said the suspects arrested for various crimes, including fraud, cybercrime, armed robbery, and causing harm in the state will face the full wrath of the law after investigation.

TheNigerian Metro reports the command made several arrests in recent months, recovering stolen vehicles, motorcycles, and other items.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, said, in a statement on Sunday, the arrests were made possible through the efforts of its gallant operatives.

Adam said one of the suspects, Usman Ahmed, 23, was arrested on December 14, 2024, at about 9:00 pm, during a routine patrol along the Gagarawa Road.

“Ahmed, a resident of Hotoro quarters, Gezawa LGA, Kano State, was found with an unregistered Daylong motorcycle. When questioned, he was unable to provide a satisfactory account of himself or the motorcycle.”

The Jigawa Police spokesperson also stated that a preliminary investigation revealed that Ahmed and his accomplices had chartered a cyclist, Dini Idris, 22, with the pretence of conveying them to Sahara Hotel in Gumel metro.

However, upon arrival at the Gumel Local Government Duplex, the suspects attacked Idris, smashed a bottle on his head and stabbed him with a knife in various parts of his body.

Idris was rushed to Gumel General Hospital for medical attention, where he was admitted for proper medical care. Ahmed confessed to the crime when interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Dutse.

In another incident, the PPRO said one Auwalu Mohammed reported that an unknown person had stolen his ATM card and made a transaction of N1.5m. The suspect, Mustapha Ibrahim, was arrested, and N600,000 was recovered from him.

“Two victims have identified Ibrahim as the suspect. Efforts are underway to apprehend his accomplices. The command also recovered a stolen Hilux motor vehicle, which was intercepted at the Dankama border, Kaita LGA of Katsina State,” he added.

“The vehicle, with registration number 89 CO 1, belonged to the primary health care cold store in Dutse. Investigation is ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.”

The Police Public Relations Officer said all suspects arrested would be prosecuted and face the full force of the law.

“All the suspects arrested will be made to face the full wrath of the law after prosecution”, he said.

He commended the efforts of the command’s operatives and urged the public to continue to support the police in their efforts to combat crime, urging the public to continue to support them in their efforts to combat crime.

He assured the public that the command would continue to work around the clock to combat crime and keep the state safe, and urged anyone with information about criminal activities to come forward and report to the police.
