Bauchi State Command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it arrested a total of 415 drug suspects and seized a grand total of 1.2 tonnes of various drugs in 2024.
The drugs confiscated between January to December 2024, included Cannabis Sativa popularly known as wee-wee, Diazepam, Exol-5, Pentazocine, Methamphetamine, Rohypnol and Tramadol.
State Commander of the NDLEA, CN Ali Aminu disclosed this in an interview with reporters in his office on Tuesday in Bauchi.
According to Aminu, 70 cases were charged to Court, 84 suspects successfully prosecuted while 18 cases were pending before the Federal High Court, Bauchi.
He added that 137 clients or drug users had been counselled and rehabilitated, majority of them through brief interventions in NDLEA Custody in Bauchi.
CN Aminu however, warned the general public to stop indulging in the illicit use and trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, vowing that anyone arrested with hard drugs would definitely be prosecuted.
He commended the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd) for repositioning the Agency and bringing in a new zeal into the personnel towards rededicating themselves to fighting the scourge of illicit drug abuse and trafficking.
Aminu also thanked sister security agencies for their assistance leading to apprehending drug dealers.
He further enjoined them to always liaise with the anti-narcotic agency in curbing drug the menace.
