Kano: Ex-govs Ganduje, Kwankwaso urged to bury differences

For the Kano political standoff to be resolved and to foster a united front, the immediate past governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, and his predecessors, Rabiu Kwankwaso and Ibrahim Shekarau, must shelve their differences and work together for the betterment of the state.

This was the position of a former Kano State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs and the 2023 deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Murtala Sule Garo.

He expressed concern over the lingering discord between the state’s former governors while speaking at a gathering of former members of the 8th and 9th Kano State House of Assembly.

Garo called on Ganduje and Kwankwaso to set aside their differences and work together for the development of Kano State.

“My plea is to our former governors. It is disheartening to see that in a state like Zamfara, which is far behind Kano in many respects, their former governors come together for meetings despite their differing political affiliations and ideologies. They meet and discuss issues that promote the progress of their state.

“But here in Kano, it is surprising and disappointing that our leaders and elders, the former governors, cannot come together to deliberate on matters that will drive the development of Kano.

“Therefore, we appeal to them, and we pray for them to reconcile and set aside their differences if they truly desire the progress of Kano State,” Garo stated.

Ganduje’s fallout with political friend and ally Kwankwaso occurred immediately after the 2015 gubernatorial elections, which saw Ganduje winning and becoming the successor of Kwankwaso.
