No fewer than seven persons have been reportedly killed by suspected hoodlums at Obelle community in Emohua local government area of Rivers State.
The killers were said to have traced their targets in their various apartments, breaking into their homes and killing them with dangerous weapons.
One of the local vigilante leaders in Ibaa and Obelle communities, Chinanu Eleonu, who raised an alarm to security agencies in the area, accused two men, whom he simply identified as Kiro and Yellow of been responsible for the attacks.
Eleonu, while addressing the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area and commander of Joint Taskforce (JTF) in the area, disassociated himself from any form of crime in the community.
He explained that the clarification became necessary following the killings, including the killing of a local vigilante member, which occurred late last 2024, which he claimed was traced to the same gang.
The vigilante leader called on the chairman of Emohua LGA, Hon. David Omereji, the DPO and JTF commander to redouble their efforts in ensuring proper investigation and possible arrest of those behind the crime.
Although, the Rivers State Police Command was yet to issue official statement on the incident, the DPO in charge of Rumuji Division and JTF commander in Ibaa have visited the scene of crime for commencement of investigation.
