Prominent campaigner and entertainer Charles Oputa, better known by his stage as Charly Boy, has shared details of his horrific fight with prostate cancer, including the excruciating symptoms that made his everyday existence difficult.
He recounted his experience, explaining how the sickness had a significant impact on his bladder, making it difficult for him to urinate and requiring him to spend much of his time in the restroom.
He emphasized the value of early detection and routine medical examinations when speaking on Arise Television’s Perspective. He also promised to support guys who are facing the condition through the Charly Boy Foundation.
According to Charly Boy, “A man would rather die than lose his most prized possession,” illustrating how terrible it is for males to lose the capacity to have an erection.
He clarified that men frequently suffer in quiet rather than seek medical attention because of the stigma and guilt surrounding sexual dysfunction.
His Prognosis and Challenges
Charly Boy recalled how he found out about his illness: “The doctor was really kind to me when he told me the news. “I have a suspicion, but let’s double check,” he remarked. So after I went to do, I think my MRI and I took it back to him, the next day, he said, okay, you need to go in, thank God we’re finding this early.”
He went on to say: “We need to make that space for you as soon as possible, but I think it’s pretty early.” My prostate was affected by the cancer, which was in its first stage. I had trouble urinating since, apparently, my prostate had expanded into my bladder.
“That was the first symptom,” he stated, describing his symptoms. I was urinating so often that I was nearly living in my bathroom. It was also challenging because I would go to the bathroom and then wait for the urine to arrive.
But you know what, most of the time it was just excruciating pain. And in the bathroom, I was living my life. I eventually even started wearing diapers and pampers because I occasionally have an overactive bladder. I had to go have the MRI because of this.
Motivating Men to Get Examined
Charly Boy urged men to put their health first and emphasized the value of routine checkups.

Many of our men hardly have time for themselves since they are overburdened with enormous duties. For this reason, I often tell guys that they should become a little self-centered and prioritize their own needs and well-being beyond a certain age.
He explained that finding a balance rather than ignoring family responsibilities is what this means: While I’m not advocating that you should neglect your family or your obligations to them, we all spend a significant portion of our life concentrating on our loved ones and people in our immediate vicinity. There comes a time when you have to start looking after yourself.
