President Bola Tinubu has been urged by organized labor in Nigeria to lift the state of emergency that was imposed in Rivers State.
The demand was made at the May Day celebration in Eagle Square, Abuja, by Comrades Joe Ajaero and Festus Osifo, Presidents of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress.
For the benefit of the country, the Labour leaders called on the federal and state governments to expand and stop activities that weaken the civic space.

Transparent government, electoral reforms, and an end to the repression of dissent were the foundations of their demands for democratic accountability.

The Congress demanded that the government stop what it refers to as genocidal massacres and bloodletting nationwide, stating that protecting residents’ lives and property is the government’s top priority.
To enable Nigerian workers to participate in the development of the tax legislation, organized labor has demanded that they withdraw from the National Assembly.

Labor urged that the telecommunications tariff be immediately reduced from fifty percent to thirty-five percent since it had increased.

Additionally, the organized labor movement has called for an urgent pay adjustment that reflects the nation’s current economic situation.

The Labour Party also wants all unpaid allowances, pensions, and gratuities paid out immediately nationwide, as well as the return of gratuity payments, an increase in the retirement age, and automatic pension adjustments to account for inflation.
