The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has directed all Local Government and Ward Chairmen across the state to commence immediate registration of newly defected members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), waiving all preconditions or procedural demands.
The directive was issued by the APC State Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, through the State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, Esq.
According to the party, the order follows the unprecedented political shift of April 28, 2025, when the entire executive structure of the PDP — from ward level to the state level — defected en masse to the APC alongside Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other key political figures.
“This momentous development signals a new era for our great Party and must be handled with a sense of unity, inclusion, and openness,” the APC stated.
In light of this, grassroots functionaries — including local government chairmen and ward leaders — have been instructed to eliminate all bureaucratic red tape that could hinder the registration process. The party emphasized that any actions that could discourage or alienate the new entrants will not be tolerated.
“Any act capable of alienating or discouraging our new entrants from participating fully in Party activities shall not be tolerated,” the statement warned.
The APC described the current moment as one of growth, unity, and strategic consolidation, urging all party faithful to demonstrate “a spirit of brotherhood and progressiveness.”
“Let us work together to build a stronger, united APC that reflects the aspirations of all Deltans under the leadership of His Excellency Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, the Executive Governor of Delta State.”
The defection of Governor Oborevwori and the collapse of the PDP’s state structure into the APC is widely seen as one of the most significant political realignments in Delta’s recent history, with potential implications for the 2027 general elections.
