‘You Messed Up a Clean House’ – LP Leader Holds Obi Responsible for Party Troubles

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 presidential contender, has been blamed for the party’s turmoil by previous presidential candidate and LP chieftain Faduri Oluwadare Joseph.
He accused the former governor of Anambra of blaming everyone but himself in a statement released on Thursday.
He brought up the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), which he said Obi did not create but instead disbanded after reaping the benefits of the party’s success.

The leader of the LP maintained that Peter Obi was solely to blame for the party’s predicament.

He asserted that Obi’s political aspirations were the reason behind all of the party’s dubious transactions.

Part of the statement states, “Mr. Peter Obi has been blaming everyone but himself for the growing crisis in the Labour Party in a number of comments and videos. Obi seemed to be blaming everyone save the man in the mirror, from the present president to the party leadership and even outside forces.

“This is dishonest and disappointing. It is absurd that a man who takes pride in his ability, competence, and output—the fundamental tenets of the Labour Party—is now a representation of disarray, misunderstanding, and poor performance.

In a recent video that I viewed, he blamed the party’s problems on the president. He blamed the party leadership in another. There is no end to the blame game.

“Let’s face it: Mr. Peter Obi alone is accountable for the Labour Party’s decline.

“The Labour Party was unified when Obi joined in 2022. The house was tidy. However, since his arrival, the entire party has been rocked by crises. The center was no longer able to hold.

“Our loss in the general election of 2023 was largely caused by this split. It is impossible for a home to remain divided against itself.

How is it possible for someone who says he wants to lead a complicated country like Nigeria to be incapable of running even a small political party?

“I implore all Obi supporters to consider this: How would Peter Obi handle interstate conflicts, economic restructuring, security unrest, and national reconciliation if he is unable to handle party-level crises?

Remember that Obi did not create APGA, the organization that provided him with his initial chance. Like Awolowo with UPN or Nnamdi Azikiwe with NCNC, he abandoned it before he could turn it into a national party. In contrast, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu transformed a local party into the national force that currently controls Nigeria.

Obi always sought the simplest route rather than the one that required genuine leadership and sacrifice, thus instead of bolstering APGA, he fled to the PDP for another political meal before moving to the Labour Party for a third helping.

“After the 2023 elections, he further distanced himself from Barr. Julius Abure, the same man he utilized during the campaign, rather than going back to rebuild the Labour Party and bring resentful people together. He forgets he was the one who entered a pristine house and ruined it, and now that the party is in ruins, he accuses Abure of causing the disaster.

To be clear, I don’t like Julius Abure, but Obi’s political aspirations were the reason behind the dubious transactions that are currently being investigated. Loyalty, accountability, and the will to lead are necessary for leadership, particularly during trying times.
