Former Nollywood star Ganiu Nafiu, also known by his stage as Alapini, has apologized for backing President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.
In a YouTube interview titled “Behind the Fame – African A-List TV,” Alapini reportedly bemoaned the disregard and lack of acknowledgment that followed Tinubu’s victory in the presidential election.
Alapini stressed that he and many other veterans spent two months campaigning for Tinubu in the hopes that their visibility and loyalty would be valued following the election, but that hope has subsequently turned to disillusionment.
“We were campaigning with joy, believing that our messiah had arrived, because Tinubu is someone we have loved for many years and he has been helpful to actors,” he said. That’s why we stood by him for two months. We pushed for him for two months.
Alapini added that the All Progressives Congress and Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, did not recognize the contributions of the elderly actors who were visibly present at campaign events.
The performer also mentioned his colleague Olaiya Igwe, who famously prayed for Tinubu’s election while nude on a beach, emphasizing that he has not been exempt from the curses placed against him.
Claiming that Yoruba villages have been neglected, Alapini chastised Seyi for concentrating his charitable endeavors in Northern Nigeria.

“Would Seyi say that he didn’t see us old folks when we were out there campaigning?” he continued.
Did Seyi fail to recognize us, the older actors, because he was blind? There were more than a hundred of us. We were all out and about, young and old.
We even ran campaigns in places where some people couldn’t.
They provided us with nothing. When we were campaigning, we were being cursed in comment sections.
“Due to Tinubu, my friend Olaiya Igwe went naked on the beach.
He still bears the curses that were cast upon him.
“That Seyi is currently rushing around the North to cover their medical expenses.” Isn’t Yorubaland also home to sick people? How many hospitals has he paid for sick people’s bills at here in Yorubaland?
