Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress’s (AAC) 2023 presidential candidate, has claimed that the government is more terrified of unarmed demonstrators than of violent threats.
In an interview with Arise Television on Wednesday, Sowore stated this while denouncing the government’s continued repression of nonviolent demonstrators, according to Naija News.
Sowore responded, “I do,” when asked if he thought the administration was afraid of protesters. I fully do. Because they are capable of responding to those who are shooting at the government, but lack the ability, capacity, and plan to stop the majority, they are more terrified of placards than they are of firearms.
“They are more dangerous when their light numbers are carrying placards than when they are carrying guns.”
Sowore went on to say that the government’s conduct of the treason trial against 11 #EndBadGovernance was politically driven and without merit.

According to him, “the prosecutors in this case came to court asking for an adjournment, claiming that the police officer who initiated the prosecution has been retired, which is false,” as is customary for the Nigerian police. He wasn’t retired. Because he changed his age, he was fired from the police force. First of all, the person who made the charges will also be charged with age alteration within the next week or two.
“Those were probably minors.” Correct. And they promptly dropped the allegations due to the shame that came with it. However, they want to keep using these to dissuade others from participating in future peaceful protests.
