2027 Elections: Suswam Warns APC About Growing Opposition Coalition

Former Benue State Governor and senior PDP figure, Gabriel Suswam, has cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) to be concerned about the growing momentum of an emerging opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, Suswam described the coalition as a formidable political force that is gaining strength due to widespread dissatisfaction with the current administration’s economic policies.

“This is not the first time we are witnessing such political realignment. The hardship Nigerians are experiencing under this administration is creating unity across opposition lines. Everyone is affected, and that’s why the coalition will be a major force in 2027,” Suswam stated.

He stressed that if he were in the ruling APC, he would be “very worried.”

President Bola Tinubu, during a recent visit to Nasarawa State, dismissed the opposition coalition, referring to its members as “internally displaced politicians”—a statement perceived as a dig at defectors and disenchanted members from both APC and other parties.

Responding, Suswam cautioned against repeating the PDP’s 2015 mistake of underestimating the then-forming APC, which later defeated them at the polls.

“We made the same error when APC was being formed. We ignored them, but they won the election,” Suswam recalled.

He added that the ruling party should pay attention to internal discontent, revealing that several APC members are secretly aligning with the new coalition in anticipation of a political shift.
