Wike Backs Okpebholo After Supreme Court Win, Urges Him to Deliver on Mandate

The Supreme Court’s decision, which upheld Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo’s victory in the state’s September 2024 governorship election, has been applauded by Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike.

The governor should see the victory as an additional call to serve the people of Edo State without expecting anything in return, Wike added, urging him to stay focused.

The FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka, his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, said in a statement on Thursday that the Supreme Court’s ruling was a final affirmation of the governor’s freely granted mandate by the Edo State people.

“This victory is for the people of Edo State, who elected Governor Okpebholo,” he declared. It is an appeal for a stronger dedication to the public good.

“I commend the governor and implore him to continue working hard for the betterment of Edo State and its citizens.”

The FCT Minister said, “Now that a definitive answer has been given as to who actually won the governorship election, it behoves on all opponents of the governor to, in the collective interest of Edo State, join hands with him.” He was urging Asuerime Ighodalo, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), to work with Governor Okpebholo to develop Edo State.
