A faction of the Labour Party (LP) loyal to Senator Nenadi Usman has strongly criticized Julius Abure, the party’s suspended former National Chairman, over a viral photo of him with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by Ken Asogwa, media aide to the Acting National Chairman, the faction accused Abure of betraying the ideals of the party by aligning with political figures believed to oppose the LP’s progressive agenda.
According to the group, Abure’s presence in the photo confirms suspicions about his alleged disloyalty and collaboration with external forces seeking to undermine the Labour Party from within. They further alleged that Abure was absent during several crucial moments, including local government elections in Lagos and key campaign events in Anambra, Kogi, and Edo.
“While Peter Obi continues to focus on national challenges and Senator Usman engages with international stakeholders in the party’s interest, Abure is seen socializing with those responsible for electoral malpractice and political repression,” the statement read.
The faction emphasized that Abure remains suspended and holds no legitimate authority within the LP. They described his actions as a betrayal of the “New Nigeria” movement and called on Nigerians to judge for themselves who truly represents the party’s future.
“This party belongs to the people,” the statement concluded, “and it must be safeguarded from those who place personal ambition above national progress.”
