The All Progressives Congress (APC) has claimed an overwhelming victory in the recently concluded Lagos State local government elections, winning all 57 chairmanship seats and 375 out of 376 councillorship positions.
The results were announced by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) on Sunday. The commission’s chairperson, Retired Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile, declared the outcome at LASIEC’s headquarters in Yaba, Lagos.
Only one councillorship seat, located in Yaba LCDA, was won by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Justice Okikiolu-Ighile praised voters and stakeholders for their peaceful conduct and engagement, stating that the election was “orderly, credible, and largely free of disruptions.” She acknowledged a few delays due to logistics but commended the dedication of election officials and security personnel throughout the process.
“There were no major incidents of violence, ballot snatching, or voter intimidation. The enthusiasm of residents before and during the polls was commendable,” she noted.
LASIEC also pointed to the need for improved voter turnout, describing apathy as a recurring issue that must be addressed through more aggressive voter education and public awareness.
The commission confirmed that certificates of return will be issued soon to all successful candidates.
Fifteen political parties took part in the election, but the APC’s dominance remained unchallenged across virtually all wards and local council areas.
Observers, civil society groups, media professionals, youth and women organizations, traditional institutions, and other stakeholders were applauded for their active participation and support in the electoral process.
This landslide result further cements APC’s stronghold over local governance in Lagos State.
