North Central Youths Mobilise 100 Delegates to Lobby Akpabio for Sani Musa as APC Chairman

A coalition of youth groups representing over 1,000 All Progressives Congress (APC) support organisations in Nigeria’s North Central region has announced plans to send a 100-man delegation to Senate President Godswill Akpabio to urge him to support Senator Mohammed Sani Musa for the position of APC National Chairman.

The decision was made at an emergency meeting convened on Thursday in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa state, when young leaders discussed the political future of the North Central geopolitical zone and the necessity for strategic positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a communiqué issued at the conclusion of the meeting and signed by Comrade Dan Okwa, the convener of the North Central APC Youth Vanguard, the groups reaffirmed their commitment to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid and stated that achieving that goal would necessitate strong, pragmatic, and politically astute party leadership.

“We feel that the North Central should not only be heard, but also seen at the table of power. As we prepare for 2027, it is critical that we restructure our own political architecture and nominate one of our most credible and experienced candidates to lead the APC,” the group stated.

According to the coalition, Senator Sani Musa, who currently represents Niger East in the National Assembly and chairs the Senate Committee on Finance, has demonstrated the loyalty, foresight, and grassroots understanding required to stabilise and reposition the ruling party for electoral success.

“He is a man who understands the inner workings of the APC, appreciates its vision, and has shown unwavering commitment to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” Okwa told journalists.

“This is why we are sending a 100-man delegation to visit the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, within the week, to present our case and solicit his support for this important mission.”

While the youth coalition acknowledged that other prominent North Central candidates, including former Nasarawa governor Senator Tanko Al-Makura, have expressed interest in leading the party, it stated that Sani Musa represents a generational bridge who combines experience with a forward-thinking perspective.

“We respect all aspirants, particularly Senator Al-Makura, a respected elder and party builder.” However, we are convinced that at this vital juncture in our country’s history, the APC requires a younger, vibrant, and unifying figure capable of galvanizing the party’s support, particularly its youth. “That person is Senator Sani Musa,” the communiqué read.

The groups also used the opportunity to urge APC elders and political stakeholders, particularly those from the North Central region, to persuade Senator Sani Musa to officially declare his interest in the national chairmanship position and lead the effort to strengthen the region’s influence in national politics.

According to Okwa, the delegation to Akpabio would present a detailed petition containing decisions from the youth summit as well as a breakdown of the North Central zone’s strategic role in supporting the APC since its establishment.

“From tremendous voter mobilisation to defending the party during difficult times, the North Central has consistently supported the APC. We believe it is time for the party to recognize loyalty and capacity,” he stated.

The youth coalition also pledged to increase mobilization in the North Central states and the FCT ahead of the APC National Convention, emphasizing that their campaign is about more than just regional inclusion; it is also about strengthening party discipline, rebuilding trust, and positioning the APC for future victories.

“We will engage critical leaders throughout all zones, not just the North Central. This is about the APC’s future, and we feel Senator Sani Musa is the right person to lead us there,” Okwa said.

The group plans to meet with Senate President Akpabio later this week in Abuja.
