Reports that Bello Turji, the terrorist leader, has turned himself in to the military have been denied by Defense Headquarters.
Turji, a wanted bandit commander who mostly operates in the states of Zamfara and Sokoto, has reportedly been charged with planning many attacks on villages in the North-West.
Following a peace attempt mediated by Islamic clerics in Zamfara State, Turji reportedly turned over his weapons and freed 32 kidnapped individuals.
But during a press conference on the Armed Forces’ actions on Thursday in Abuja, Maj. Gen. Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, said that they are still looking for Turji.
“Simply put, Bello Turji, the terrorist leader, has not turned himself in, and we are still searching for him,” he stated.
In other events, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has promised that anyone responsible for the state’s violence will face consequences.
He made this statement in response to the recent series of bandit attacks that killed people in the Kauran Namoda Local Government Area.

The governor denounced the needless murders and promised that divine intervention will reveal and embarrass those responsible for the crime.
Five severely impacted communities were visited on the Wednesday visit: Banga, Sakajiki, Kuryar Madaro, Maguru, and Tambarawa.
Many locals are shocked and grieving the loss of loved ones as a result of the alarming increase in bandit attacks in these areas.
Governor Lawal, who was abroad of the state when the most recent incident happened, said that he gave the Deputy Governor the order to send a powerful delegation to show sympathy for the victims right away.
He visited the impacted communities after returning to Gusau, the state capital, to evaluate the damage and provide consolation to the bereaved relatives.
