On Saturday, August 16, 2025, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will hold a bye-election to replace the vacancy in the House of Representatives’ Ibadan North Federal Constituency.
After Hon. Musliudeen Olaide Akinremi (also known as Jagaban), a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), passed away on July 10, 2024, at the age of 51, the seat became vacant.
Five political parties have put their candidates forward for the bye-election that will take place in the 512 polling places and 12 wards that comprise the constituency.
Adewale Haastrup Olatunji of the All Progressives Congress (APC); Olabisi Olajumoke Odususi of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA); Fola Sunday Oyekunle of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Hammed Badmus of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP); and Dexter Femi Akin-Alamu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) were the five candidates who signed a peace agreement at the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) headquarters in Oyo State during the week.
The INEC Commissioner, Dr. Tella Adeniran, reports that 217,980 voters have picked up their PVCs, 272,196 voters have registered, and 2,062 poll workers are ready.
The workout will start at 8:30 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m.
In the impacted locations, including Agbowo/UI, Agbowo/Expressway, Beere/Oje/Odoye, Mokola axis/Adamasingba axis, Sango/Eleyele, Apete/Ijokodo, Gate/Basorun/Ashi, Samonda/Bodija/Ikolaba, and Yemetu/Inalende, there will be restrictions on vehicle movement.
