Otote Famous, a PDP leader in Ovia North-East Local Government Area, and Monday Okpebholo, the governor of Edo State, have bemoaned the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System’s (BVAS) malfunction during the state’s senatorial and Federal House of Representatives by-elections.
Soon after casting their ballots in Ward 2, Unit 1, Udomi Primary School in Esan Central, and Ekiadolor Primary School in Ovia North-East Local Government Area, respectively, the two had been interviewed separately.
According to Okpebholo, the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) BVAS devices were generating needless delays.
“Well, I cast my ballot. The frustration is evident. Simply put, the BVAS is too slow. The accreditation process takes too long. I believe INEC should investigate this. The feelers I’m receiving are nice, so far,” he remarked.
Famous bemoaned that if INEC does not act quickly to bring the BVAS under control, more voters will lose their right to vote.
Famous went on to say that while some people had cast ballots, the BVAS has prevented more than 20 others from doing so.
While a sizable portion of the population cast ballots, the BVAS malfunctioned at 10:00 am, preventing more than 20 people from doing so.
“The BVAS has been managed by INEC personnel. The machines have been experiencing problems ever since they began,” he stated.
