According to the Julius Abure-led group of the Labour Party (LP), Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, and Peter Obi, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, are the losers in the party’s leadership conflict.
In response to a court decision about Saturday’s by-elections, the party’s polarized National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, made this statement on Saturday.
Following a Federal High Court ruling on August 15, 2025, the faction expressed surprise at Interim National Chairman Nenadi Usman and her camp’s celebration that Julius Abure’s recognition had been revoked by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Usman and her supporters, according to Ifoh, were influencing the opposition. He pondered whether their joy sprang from their desire for the LP to perish.
“Are they not giving the opposition an advantage? Who gains from this whole ordeal? Who is the loser? In all of this, aren’t Dr. Alex Otti and Peter Obi the losers? Do they want the celebration to end, which is why they are celebrating?
“A party that provided them with a platform when they were dissatisfied with other political parties, a party that gave them hope when they had none.”
Therefore, Nenadi’s practice of disseminating the identical counter-affidavit as though it were a brand-new document is immature. “To us, their celebration means nothing,” the statement read.
