Tonye Cole, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor of Rivers State, has attacked Nyesom Wike, the FCT minister, for his affiliation with the ruling APC although professing to be a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Cole stated during his appearance on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” program on Friday that Wike shouldn’t mislead people about his political affiliation.
Is he a member of the PDP or APC? He is PDP, as far as we currently know.
He stated, “We cannot continue to confuse Nigerians and the electorate in Rivers State because it is dangerous for democracy to be in one party and control another party, and we are trying to create a one-party state that is a mixture that nobody is clear about.”
It was remembered that Wike ran against his party’s Northern-born candidate, Atiku Abubakar, during the 2023 presidential election campaign, advocating for the South to become the next president.
President Bola Tinubu later nominated the former governor of Rivers State as a minister.
In many forums, he has voiced his support for the president’s bid for a second term.
According to reports, the APC won 20 of the 23 council seats in the Rivers local government election on August 30.
Three councils were won by the PDP, including Obio/Akpo, where Wike chaired the council for two terms in 1999 before becoming governor from 2015 to 2023.
