Enugu Community Celebrates Ofala Festival in Grand Style

As they get ready for their grand Ofala Festival, the Amechi Uwani Autonomous community in the Enugu South Local Government Area is a hive of activity.

As part of ongoing efforts to honor traditional leadership and promote cultural heritage, the community has announced plans to host its forthcoming Ofala Festival in a big manner.

Prof. Victor Nnam, the chairman of the Ofala Festival Central Planning Committee, revealed this in a statement that was made accessible to reporters in Enugu on Sunday.

The celebration is being held in honor of His Royal Highness, Igwe J.A.E. Ogbodo, the Ohachirieze II of Amechi Uwani Awkunanaw, in appreciation of his leadership and the community’s long-standing traditions, the announcement reads.

Prof. Nnam said, “The Ofala Festival is a vibrant reflection of our people’s rich cultural heritage passed down from generation to generation, and it is not just a celebration of our revered monarch.”

He added that the gathering will act as a focal point for friends and well-wishers, as well as for indigenous members of the community living in the community and abroad.

“It is an opportunity to celebrate the Igweship institution, which continues to be a pillar of identity, unity, and development in Amechi Uwani, and to highlight the beauty of our customs,” he continued.

The Greater Amechi Awkunanaw Unity Field in Ofia Utu will host the festival, which is set for Saturday, December 27, 2025, at 12 p.m.

Sons and daughters of Amechi Uwani, along with other notable people who have made important contributions to the advancement of their communities, will also receive honorary traditional titles as part of the celebration from His Royal Highness, Igwe J.A.E. Ogbodo.

Traditional dances, cultural exhibits, royal blessings, masquerade performances, and visits by prominent dignitaries from Enugu State and abroad will be among the event’s highlights.
