NPFL: Enyimba Go Top, Ahmed Musa Lifts Kano Pillars, Kun Khalifat Enters History Books

On Sunday, September 14, at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, Enyimba International FC of Aba defeated Bayelsa United 2-0 to take the lead in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) standings.
With a great second-half performance, the People’s Elephant, who had a poor 2024–2025 NPFL season, appeared to be title candidates.

Chidera Michael set the tone for victory in the 78th minute after the first half ended without a goal. Coach Stanley Eguma’s team left Yenagoa with all three points after Kalu Nweke doubled the lead five minutes later.

With eight points from four games—two wins, two ties, and no losses—the victory propelled Enyimba to the top of the standings. On September 21, they will host Bendel Insurance in Aba, while Bayelsa United hopes to defeat Nasarawa United at home.

At the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano Pillars defeated Enugu Rangers by a slim margin of 1-0 thanks to a goal from Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa, who scored his first of the season.

After experienced midfielder Rabiu Ali had missed a penalty earlier, the former winger for Leicester City and CSKA Moscow scored in the 65th minute. Sai Masu Gida was able to escape the relegation zone thanks to the outcome.

In the meantime, NPFL rookies Kun Khalifat created history by defeating El-Kanemi Warriors 3-1 in Aba, their first-ever top-flight victory.

With a brace, Ebuka Nwokorie emerged victorious, and Onuorah Onyedika added another. Ebuka Okoro provided El-Kanemi with solace.

Kun Khalifat, which was founded in Owerri only five years ago, has advanced quickly through the divisions, and Sunday’s victory marked a significant turning point for the Imo-based team. They will face Shooting Stars in Ibadan in their upcoming test.
