After two young men were brutally killed in separate apparent retaliations during cult conflicts, residents of Lakowe’s Orita Adeba and Sangotedo were plunged into intense sadness over the weekend.
The incidents, according to reports, were the most recent in a series of cult-related altercations that have killed a number of people in Lagos State in recent weeks.
Residents and mourners crowded around, wailing and taking pictures of the deceased, who was seen in a widely shared video lying face-up in a pool of blood while wearing brown shorts and a white vest and sporting dreadlocks.
The man was attacked with machetes and left on the side of the road, a Lakowe local told reporters, requesting anonymity due to the delicate nature of the situation. He claims that the attackers also cut off the victim’s right wrist and took it.
It’s accurate. It took place yesterday. At Orita Adeba, across from the Lakowe Bus Stop, they left the body. We are unable to sleep at night anymore. We found out that he was killed by the Aye cult. His wrist was completely severed. He informed reporters, “They have been killing each other to count scores for a few weeks now.”
Another young male was discovered dead in the Sangotedo neighborhood, although locals blamed cult violence for the Lakowe murder.
In a video posted by the Naija Confra Telegram page, the deceased was seen dead by the side of the road wearing a white singlet and black pants.
As of the time this report was submitted, the police had not yet provided any information about the incidents.
